Mental Health First Aid Courses

We’re proud to partner with Empowered Forward – delivering nationally recognised Mental Health First Aid courses to Cairns and surrounds, or Australia-wide upon request.

Jessica from Empowered Forward is a Registered Nurse / Midwife, qualified Trainer & Assessor (TAE40122), and Licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor through Mental Health First Aid Australia. Her courses are evidence-based, practical, and designed to empower individuals and workplaces with the skills to support someone developing or experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence based course that teaches participants how to provide initial support to someone with a mental health problem or who is experiencing a mental health crisis, until professional help is received or until the crisis resolves.

This course is especially valuable for NDIS providers and support workers, offering practical tools that directly enhance the quality of care; as it builds workforce capability, aligns with NDIS Practice Standards, and reinforces trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approaches.

Staff trained in Mental Health First Aid are better prepared to support participants with complex needs, respond calmly and effectively in challenging situations, and create safer, more empowering environments for everyone involved.

For anyone supporting people with mental health challenges—whether professionally or personally—Mental Health First Aid courses provide essential tools to navigate difficult moments with empathy, clarity, and confidence.

Through a practical, skils-based action plan, participants learn to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems or a mental health crisis
  • Intervene early and respond confidently and appropriately to an existing or emerging mental health problem, or a mental health crisis
  • Understand available treatments and support options
  • Reduce stigma associated with living with or experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.

  •  Introduction to Mental Health vs Ilness and Mental Health Problems
  • Risk Factors and Protective Factors
  • Barriers to Help Seeking and Support
  • Mental Health First Aid Action Plan
